Can i look different in pictures than in real life?

Ive been told that I am fairly attractive with a nice smile but when i take pictures, seems like i dont have any of these qualities. I look at the mirror and have examined the hundreds pictures of me (some w/ other ppl) and the face i see in the pictures dont look the same person i see in the mirror. in the pictures, i seem to have wider face, wider nose, darker eye brows (kind of scary), dorky smile. can someone help explain this??
