How much is a truck driver paid average per mile?

When I get older I want to start trucking around the United States. I would like the know the average cents I would get per mile. My grandfather said that if you are a Co-Operater you will get paid more, is this true? I want to freelance and I will have my mother as my broker. What is a truck drivers average pay that travels around the United States?
