Is vaporizing tobacco/cannabis less or non-toxic?

Alright so i made a home made vaporizer out of a light bulb. basically, you just hold a lighter under the bulb, containing tobacco or cannabis. It definitely feels stronger than just smoking a cig/joint and I have noticed it seems easier to inhale. I heard vaporizers are healthier, but i don't know if that's true. If it is, why? And is the thing i even made a true vaporizer?
